Features

Everything you need, nothing you don't

appWindow is a quiet menu-bar utility with a handful of features that all do exactly one job well: keep the window you care about visible.

Instant PiP, any app

Press one shortcut and whatever window is frontmost — a browser, Spotify, Zoom, anything — instantly becomes a floating Picture-in-Picture panel.

WhatsApp call detection

appWindow watches for WhatsApp video and voice calls and automatically offers to float the call window the moment it starts.

Drag & resize freely

Move it anywhere on screen and resize from a single corner handle — as small as 50×50 pixels, or as large as you like.

Always-on-top, your choice

Keep your PiP floating above everything, or let it behave like a normal window that other apps can cover.

Fully customizable shortcuts

Two independent global hotkeys — one to start/close a PiP session, one to instantly hide or reveal it — recordable to whatever combo you want.

Watch what you want

Choose exactly which apps appWindow should monitor, or set it to watch every window on your Mac.

Lives quietly in your menu bar

No Dock icon, no app switcher clutter — appWindow stays out of your way until the moment you need it.

How it works

From click to floating in seconds

1

Open appWindow

It settles quietly into your menu bar — no Dock icon, no setup screens.

2

Press your shortcut

On any window you're using, your shortcut instantly floats it as a small PiP panel.

3

Arrange it your way

Drag it anywhere, resize it from the corner, or toggle always-on-top.

4

Hide, reveal, or close

Your second shortcut hides or reveals it instantly. Trigger the first again to close the session.

100% local. Nothing ever leaves your Mac.

appWindow makes zero network requests. There's no analytics, no telemetry, no account, and no server. Window detection, capture, and mirroring all happen entirely on your device.

FAQ

Good questions

Why does appWindow need Screen Recording permission?

macOS requires this permission for any app that mirrors the contents of another window. appWindow only uses it to capture the specific window you choose to float — never anything else, and never in the background without your action.

Does appWindow only work with WhatsApp?

No. appWindow started as a WhatsApp call companion, but it now works with any app on your Mac. Use the shortcut to instantly float the frontmost window of any app, or choose specific apps to watch automatically in Settings.

Is my data safe? Does appWindow collect anything?

appWindow makes zero network requests. There's no analytics, no telemetry, no account, and nothing is ever sent anywhere — everything happens entirely on your Mac.

Why do I see an "Apple could not verify this app" warning when I open it?

appWindow is currently distributed directly rather than through the Mac App Store, without a paid Apple Developer certificate, so Gatekeeper flags it as from an unidentified developer. This is expected. Right-click the app, choose Open, then click Open again in the dialog — you'll only need to do this once.
